Timber windows in St Neots
Most Tilt and Turn Windows enquiries we take in St Neots start with an opening that is not a standard size. Most of what we survey locally is college-town Georgian stock, fenland brick farmhouses and rapid new-build growth, which is not built to any modern module. Add the driest region in the UK with exposed fen wind to that and shrinkage and joint opening rather than rot in most inland stock becomes the usual trigger for replacement. Where we put the effort is dual-action hardware that stays reliable through thousands of cycles.
Nothing is ordered until someone has stood in front of the opening with a tape. Photographs and approximate sizes are all we need to start.
Worth knowing locally: college and listed stock in Cambridge demands exact historic replication.

Verified client, CambridgeshireSt Neots questions
Do you fit, or supply only?
Both. Supply-only is common for trade and contractor clients. For private clients we usually recommend supply and fit, because responsibility for the fit and the finish then sits in one place.
Will the finish need maintaining?
A factory-applied microporous finish typically needs inspection every three to five years, sooner on exposed coastal elevations. Maintaining it is far cheaper than letting a coating fail and the timber take up water.
Do you work in hardwood or softwood?
Both. Engineered hardwood is the default where movement or exposure is a concern, and slow-grown softwood is often the better value choice for painted work in sheltered positions. We will tell you which we would specify and why.
Do you take a deposit?
Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.
Can you price from drawings?
Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.
